If you have already run a previous version of the TZUpdater tool on your JDK/JRE software, you do not need to apply this version of the tool, unless your system requires the specific bug fixes described in Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software.
A version of TZUpdater tool for updating the current version of Oracle’s Java Runtime Enviroment is available in Oracle Technology Network - Java SE Download Page.
Am I missing something obvious, or am I missing instructions somewhere on how to do this? (I'm trying to do this because mysql is giving me errors like this: 'error: SET time_zone = 'US/Pacific' Unknown or incorrect time zone: 'US/Pacific'). These are all listed in the list of tz database time zones here on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones - what could be wrong?
However replacing the file straight away does not update the time zone.I noticed date moved back 1 hour for Moscow which is correct. However, Settings app still showed GMT 4 rather than GMT 3.I downloaded the time zone data from IANA here: I tried editing the 'make' file and executing that, but got several errors so I'm not sure that was the right thing to do.
I also tried just replacing my zoneinfo folder with this new data, and got the error that my timezone database was corrupt. :) After doing that, and restarting mysql, restarting nginx, I'm still getting mysql errors - mysql doesn't know the time zones I'm using (things like, US/Hawaii, US/Alaska, US/Pacific).Oracle relies on the timezone data publicly available through IANA's Time Zone Database.Oracle recommends that you use the latest Oracle Java SE platform JDK or JRE update release as the preferred means of delivering both timezone data updates and other product improvements, such as security fixes. In Debian releases Etch and later, /etc/localtime is a copy of the original data file.
